Yamnotri

Yamunotri is situated in Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand. Yamunotri is one of the four sites of famous Char Dham Yatra. It is located at a height of 3235 m above sea level. The site is the source of the Yamuna River and is the seat of Goddess Yamuna. Yamunotri is also the western most shrines in the Garhwal Himalayas. The chief attraction of Yamunotri pilgrimage in India is the famous Yamunotri temple.

Yamunotri Temple

Your Yamunotri Yatra will be incomplete without visiting the famous Yamunotri temple. Maharani Gularia of Jaipur built the temple in the 19th century. It lies on the left bank of Yamuna River. Regular bad weather conditions and earthquakes destroyed the temple. The idols of the temple were spared. The temple was rebuilt and again got damaged by heavy snowfall and rain. The current temple of recent origin is located six km from the town of Hanuman Chatti and four kms from Janki Chatti.

Hanuman Chatti is well connected to buses for Rishikesh, Gangotri, Haridwar, and Dehradun. After reaching Hanuman Chatti, visitors need to cover the remaining 14 km distance to Yamunotri through ponies or palanquins.
