Usually people travel from Kolkota to Goa for a holiday. But, it is rare to find people traveling from Goa to Kolkota. Usually such flights are domestic in nature. The main reasons for traveling on this route include:

• Holiday makers returning home - such passengers include Kolkota city residents. These people have intimate knowledge which flights are the cheapest.
• For business reason - foreign nationals often travel on domestic passenger aircraft to Kolkota for purposes of initiating, negotiating and re-establishing business ties
• Tourism - A small section of Goan city residents travel via air to Kolkota to experience the rich history and culture
• Wildlife - Foreign nationals catch domestic flights to see the diverse wildlife abundant in the Bengal state. These tourists fly to Kolkota, book into a luxurious hotel and then rent out transportation for a day to view the wildlife parks.
• Transit passengers -a few foreign nationals and domestic students board flights leaving for Kolkota from Goa via Delhi. These are transit passengers who board the craft when it lands to disembark passengers in Delhi.

The airfare from Goa to Kolkota is inexpensive. This is because the passengers are returning tourists who cannot afford expensive flights. Domestic tourism does play an important part in the Goan economy. Usually, these flights have more 'economy' class seats. They run through out the week at all times. Special airfare from Goa to Kolkota is given to returning tourists who book and pay for their tickets well in advance. These domestic flights are scheduled to run on light and small structured planes. These planes and flights have a limited number of seats. Some domestic flights fly to Kolkota via Delhi. Such flights are not cheap. They are generally patronized by the foreign investor. This domestic flight from Goa to Kolkota takes in more returning students and holiday makers. Usually, returning students who are unable to find available seats on any Kolkota flight get booked on to this flight. The price of the ticket remains the same.

These domestic flights run on a right schedule. Accordingly entertainment and refreshment amenities are limited. Transit flights are quipped with vendor facilities. Transit flights only ply during the day and are usually offered at discount rates to students. These transit flights also carry foreign nationals who fly to Kolkota to set up economic bases there. Groups of missionaries, religious groups and film crews are also afforded discount prices.
